Arts in the Park- Free the Children Fundraiser
I recently held an event called Arts in the Park. The idea was to showcase local talent because the talent in Russell is incredible! An outdoor concert with a barbeque, what could be better? Here are some of the photos
MTC-W Challenge #1: Teen Intervention
What Will the Style of My Show be?
The style of my show will be that of a reality talk show with live intervention. My show will be called Teen Intervention because we all know that Teens face many different issues from bullying to eating disorders to depression. The idea of my show will be to reach out to teenagers in need of help, and guide them in the rightpath with some much needed assistance.
Why a Show of Intervention?
With my recent graduation, my career path is in the direction of Health. I have chosen the field of nursing because I love helping people and listening to their problems, hoping to make even a small difference in their lives. Issues that face teenagers today have escalated immensely since the last decade and are not being handled properly. Issues are being addressed, but not solved. The people trying to solve these problems such as school boards, teachers, and politicians are well intentioned, but not always close enough to the situation and reality. Being one who has either experienced or witness some teenage issues, I know that I am able to host a program that can intervene and solve individual cases.
Why These 3 Major Sponsors?
As my 3 major sponsors, I chose the Yorkville Club, P&G beinggirl.ca and John Frieda.
I chose the Yorkville Club because I believe that everyone needs to stay fit and active. Mental health is not possible without physical health. Being in shape is the first step to loving yourself and you need to love yourself in order to love others. When engaging in an active lifestyle, your body automatically releases endorphins which stimulates your brain and allows you to feel happier and more positive. Exposing my clients to the Yorkeville Club will automatically expose them to a more positive mentoring crowd.
P&G beinggirl.ca was chosen because although boys do have many issues, girls seem to take their issues to another level. My show will focus on both male and female, but being a female myself, it will allow me to understand girl's issues better than boys. P&G beinggirl.ca will allow girls to better understand "girly" topics that may not feel comfortable being completely discussed on air. P&G beinggirl.ca will be a tremendous support for many of my clients.
My last major corporate sponsor chosen is John Frieda. Once one is feeling good physically and mentally, it is natural to want to dress the part. John Frieda will teach my female clients to dress for all different teen occasions, and how to best spend their clothing dollars. John Freda is a classy and elegant boutique that will direct my clients on the path to looking fabulous and feeling their best with confidence.
These 3 sponsors would benefit from linking to Teen Intervention because it will expose their company with all of my show marketing through TV, Web and other media partners. Society today demands that all businesses have a social conscience, and this would prove and reinforce that all three have exactly that. Doing business socially correct will open doors for them to other like minded partnerships. This network is huge!
How Will I Incorporate These Sponsors?
John Frieda will be the store of choice for dress on the show as well as live before and after clients' weeks of hard work to better themselves. Employees of John Frieda would be frequent guests on my show, explaining the importance and how tos of looking your best.
P&G beinggirl.ca will be incorporated in a similar way as John Frieda. P&G will be frequent guests on my show, talking to girls specifically about issues and changes they are going through. Private consultations will be offered by P&G beinggirl.ca and myself, as well as other producers on my show will be consulting them for advice. Further testimonials from successful interventions will be posted on their website.
Yearly memberships to The Yorkville Club will be given to successful clients following their intervention. Personal trainers from the club will be hired by the show to advise clients throughout their intervention on how to gradually become fit without hurting themselves. Training programs will be designed for each and every client, as each person has separate needs. As clients progress, a portion of shows will be held in the Club, giving it more publicity.
Other Sponsors
Although I have my three major sponsors, other sponsors will have part in the show, less obviously, but still there. Sponsors such as Balmshell cosmetics will allow myself, the host of Teen Intervention as well as my guests to look their best while on the show. Carry Clean will donate a certain amount of travel packs that my guests will receive prior to the show if they have a distance to travel. Last but not least, Fantasy GemArt jewellery will teach my clients to put the finishing touches, the icing on the cake, together for that finished, positive look.
Will My TV Show be a Hit?
Yes, my TV Show will be a hit because it is real and there is a real need. Individuals need advice and by simply watching the show, or being a guest on it, the hope is that teens lives will be changed, and some saved. With the advice and input of our corporate partners, our interventions are guaranteed to succeed.
Why a Reality Show?
I chose to host a reality show rather than produce a cartoon or drama etc, because that's exactly what life is- reality. With hosting a reality show, it allows me to address real life issues in a way that may not be possible with other genres of television. Teenagers now-a-days are interested in real things, not fantasy or sugar coated issues. Teens are now more interested in talking to and listening to others with the same or similar issues. With watching the show, advice can be given indirectly which may change one's way of thinking.
Free the Children Fundraiser
This event took many weeks of planning with an amazing committee behind me!
Planning began about a month and a half ago, with the idea that an outdoor talent showcase for the town of Russell would attract many people, especially on a nice evening, soon after grad, along with a nice barbeque :)
Thank you to Perry Bulbuck, David Klassen, Ramsey Klassen, Belva Zentner, Eldon Montgomery, and my dad for making all of this happen!
Thursday June 25th, the stage was set up in the Russell Millennium park as well has approximately 150 chairs, thinking we may have a few empties! Supper was to start at 6:00 with a hot dog and hamburger bbq, three salads to choose from and a non alcoholic beverage of course! Following supper, it was show time!
At 7:00, performers began to hit the stage. Thank you to all of the soloists- Veronique Mowbray, Colin Elliott, Ramsey Klassen and Stephanie Frieze for making time to help a very worthy cause! Also a big thank you to the Wade Dance Center from both Russell and Esterhazy, Sk and the Yachminka Ukranian Dance group from Russell...
The show went very well! With over 300 people attending, we sure didn't have any empty chairs! The night went fabulous and thank you to everyone who attended and support myself, as well as Free the Children, a very sizeable donation can be made!

An Insane Few Weeks!
Wow... has it ever been busy!
I have been to 3 grads in about 7 days and holy man am I beat!
Langenburg Grad
Ashley looked amazing! One of my best friends, Ashley Knash graduated from Langenburg high school, congrats to Ashley! she wore a beautiful white dress with detailing in the middle and she shore a little green flower in her hair :) Angelia, Michelle, Cole, Laine and Michael all looked amazing as well! Angelia, Laine and Michael graduated with honours, how exciting and what an amazing accomplishment! Cole also graduated with honours, as well as many many other awards and scholarships. Good job you guys on all your hard work! It has finally paid off though all of that complaining, moaning and groaning to get your homework done!
RUSSELL GRAD!!!
This of course was my graduation! It was the perfect day, right from a story book! Our theme this year was Riennessance/Masquerade Ball. It was so elegant and gorgeous! The day started out with an 8:00 wake up, it was time for make up! One of my best friends from childhood, Kristen clement, did my make up and it turned out awesome! Thanks so much to Kristen!! Next, was hair! Janet did my hair PERFECTLY it was exactly what I wanted for my grad and it looked amazing. So thank you Janet!! After that, it was time to come home and open some presents. My grandma Ella and Cousins Samantha, Skylar and Mackenzie were out so we continued our visit! Eventually, my boyfriend Nigel and friends Jill and Alexandra (Miss Teen Westman) made it here and we visited, laughed, opened presents and had a couple celebration drinks before it was time for graduation supper!
We had the Russell Inn cater to our backyard, so we had about 50 people over just to celebrate graduation! Thank you to everyone who came!
While Nigel, mom and dad, myself and my grad escort, Trent Becker went to the graduation supper, the remaining people in my backyard enjoyed a nice barbeque lunch, thank you to the Russell Inn. After supper, it was ceremony time!! Our slogan this year was "Unmask Your Future"!
Ceremonies did take awhile, likely about 2 hours but that's okay! It's the grads time to shine! We went though all of the awards and bursaries, I won three of them... The T.W Rice School of Dance bursary, the Banner County Health Bursary and the Ski Asessippi Bursary. Thank you very much for choosing me! Eventually it was time for diplomas! Well..... what an awesome surprise!! My goal for the year was to graduate with honours, but with my chemistry mark I didn't think it was possible... and I'm not going to lie, I was pretty upset about it. BUT when my name was called.... Karmen Guillas...graduates with honours... I was like WHAAAAT!! I couldn't believe it! That made my night and I was so happy! The grin on my face didn't leave all night! I still don't know how that happened, I am guessing that I miscounted my credits but either way, I reached my goal and that felt amazing!
<<<<< HUGE SMILE!!
One of my good friends, Heidi Marschall cleaned up on the academic awards! Good job Heidi! Heidi deserves it because she it very smart, intelligent, a sweetheart and she deserves the best! Heidi works hard in everything she does and I'm glad that she received so many academic medals, as well as the Governer Generals award! Woot woot!! Go smarty pants!
Following the awards ceremony was the grand march. I have heard comments like... "That was the most beautiful grand march I have ever seen!" and that feels great! I was on the grand march committee, meaning I was largely involved in choreographing it, so hearing those types of things really feels good. Since our theme was within an era, and a very classy one at that, We chose to continue this theme into the grand march. All of the grads either bought or made masks. We incorporated these masks into the grand march, as well as some of the easy-ish dance styles they would have used back then! the grand march started with only grads and their masks, it was lovely! Eventually we dropped the masks and picked up out escorts. Everything was perfect!
Roblin Grad
This was Trent's grad- my grad escort. So I also escorted Trent! It was an awesome day! Minus the fact that I caught a cold the day before. Everyone looked awesome! Whitney, Alenna, Shayna, Michael, Lance, Trent... everyone! And congratulations you guys on graduating! The decorations were really neat! They were retro, "Grad Fever" it was called. With silhouettes of disco dancers all over the place, music notes and disco balls it was very original! You could tell a lot of work was put into it! Ceremonies, like Russell's, took a long time, but that's to be expected! If you don't like it, then don't go! haha. One young fellow by the name of Bobby Neufeld won many many athletic awards, including MHSAA male athlete of the year for any division. Congratulations Bobby! My good friend and fellow fastball player won Goose Lake High School's female athlete of the year, congratulations to you Shayna as well!
That was my week full of graduations... stay updated to hear how my Free The Children Fundraiser went!!
What's new?
Well these last few days have been eventful! I haven't updated simply because of my crazy baseball schedule and what not! Thursday night we had "last chance for a dance" at school. So much fun! I'm going to miss everyone a lot once grad comes along... only 12 more days of classes left!! how scary is that! It was great to spend time with the girlies and dance our feet off! Friday and Saturday the Major Pratt Lady Trojan attended the DRCSS annual fastball tournament. The weekend went excellent with the Lady Trojans in the finals against Altona Aces. Unfortunately, Lady Trojans didn't have the sharpest game of the weekend and gave the "4peat" title away... this was the first year in 4 years that the Lady Trojans gave away the gold medal in the Dauphin tournament but hey, five straight years in the finals is pretty darn good! Silver is better than nothing! After the tournament I took a little road trip to Brandon to visit some awesome friends :) Excellent weekend!! Ps. My apologies for the lack of pictures thus far... A new camera is on my list as I managed to bust mine at last year's safe grad. But pictures are coming!! :)
Fastball Update
We finished our game and the result is...
